What is Business Education?

Money

We wrote quite a bit on MBAs, accounting and CPAs in general. All these can be grouped under what is popular known as business services and education.

Business education helps in the development of competencies which are related to profitable business techniques and skills. Business education is one of the most flexible and most broadly acceptable fields of study the world over. Any business education diploma boosts an individual’s earning potential greatly, increasing their career opportunities, especially considering business education is applicable to almost every industry sector. However, one can also specialize as early as possible in their career, choosing one of the numerous fields of business education. Here is a guide to the various sectors;

Management

The understanding of core business values is perhaps the first step towards the mastery of management principles. Those interested in this line of work might consider a business administration degree. With this qualification, one will be knowledgeable on business management principles, and how to apply them to real world problems and to the real work environment. Students in this curriculum learn how to use modern business principles and practice to create efficient and productive systems, evaluate the different methods of selecting personnel and implementing performance monitoring standards. The management sector of business education also focuses on such competencies as sales forecasting, product and brand management, pricing and promotion, distribution channels and branding strategies.

Finance

This is for those who are strictly numbers minded. Finance programs in business education cover relevant areas in finance like investing, international finance, capital planning and financial analysis. Programs might also explore methods of solving real work problems through the application of finance principles and accounting, the use of quantitative tools in the analysis of contemporary business functions and practice, and the use of finance principles in the global market.

Marketing

One of the most diverse areas in business education, marketing focuses on the planning, implementation and control of marketing plans, as well as the monitoring of the progress and the returns in line with organizational goals and strategies. Marketing students also learn how to measure demand and segment the market so as to achieve competitive advantage through the focus on such aspects as marketing research, sales forecasting, pricing and promotion.

Entrepreneurship

This field of study is for those with the drive to start their own businesses, or for those who already have one. Entrepreneurship programs get students familiar with real world problems that are of interest to entrepreneurs, like employment law, budgeting and key managerial skills and leadership tactics. Programs might also focus on the legal implications and the challenges of managing the typical modern organization, including negotiation tactics and strategy, understanding the factors that ensure legal compliance and principles of procurement and contracting.

International business

With qualifications in international business, one can open up global opportunities for themselves. International business programs explore how international trade and financial policies that affect international business decisions work. With the world opening up, global opportunities are becoming easily accessible. On the other hand, the interconnectedness of the global business environment means problems in one area of the world can very easily affect business in another part of the world. With this in mind, it is important for any business minded individual to have at least a basic grip of international business principles.

Human Resource management

Every industry requires human resource management, and specializing in this line of work offers a different path for those interested in business studies. Human resource management qualifications provide knowledge on such industry focused topics like human asset management and conflict resolution. The curriculum also includes learning how to select personnel for specific positions, establishing performance standards for different jobs, performance appraisal methods, and the evaluation of relative worth of different positions for the development of a compensation structure.

Business technology

The influence of technology on business cannot be understated. The main aim of technology is to make life processes easier and more convenient. Those with a passion for technology and business can specialize in business technology. There are many different career paths, including business systems analysis, Information Technology or information systems. As technology evolves, qualification in this area will enable students decide how best to evaluate business technology needs, conduct the strategic planning and implementation of various business technologies.

Operations management

Operations management simply stated is the process of following the transformation or creation of goods and services in the modern marketplace, as well as the management of supply chains networks. With a degree in operations management, students acquire skills which enable them deal with real world operations like cost control management, industrial labor relations and the analysis of the behavior of supply chain networks and personnel.

Project management

The field of project management is also on the rise. Companies find themselves wasting a lot of money and time on projects, resources which can be saved with proper project management knowledge. Project management knowledge helps in the leadership and management of diverse teams within organizations, as well as the understanding of steps involved in the successful completion of projects in real world environments.

What Are The Job Prospects For CPAs?

Before you wonder whether you will be able to find a high paying job after getting certified, you might want to pay a bit of attention to exactly what a CPA does. A CPA helps businesses and individuals make very good financial decisions. And this involves quite a bit of number crunching, data analysis, a thorough understanding of laws and regulations. As you might have guessed, this involves a lot of interaction with people. So a CPA has to be extremely good at interacting with people –  business owners, directors, share holders, government officials or other professionals. This is definitely not a desk job and very strong communication and interpersonal skills are required as CPAs work in teams and rarely – if ever – alone.

For a qualified CPA who fits the bill, the sky is the limit. The number of opportunities for CPAs are expected to grow very significantly in 2016 and beyond. This is expected to be driven by establishment of new businesses, ever changing financial regulations and increased government scrutiny into the financial affairs of businesses. Also, retiring CPAs and accountants will need to be replaced by new hires.

Candidates with a Master’s degree in accounting / business administration and a CPA certification should have an edge. Additional certification like the CFA or CIA could mean increased chances of securing a position in management accounting. Candidates with only a bachelor’s degree and CPA certification might be limited to public accounting.

Also, certain positions require deep expertise in specific areas like international business, accounting or auditing software. Expertise in these areas come only with on the job experience.

Become CPA in 5 Steps

Become CPAMany people ask me how to become a CPA, and in this section I will go through the step by step process that you can follow to become a CPA and have a very fulfilling career.

The CPA designation is granted to those who display proficiency and commitment in 5 key areas: your education, accounting knowledge, ability to work in the accounting profession, ethics and commitment to the overall accounting profession.

Therefore, the procedure to obtain your CPA license involves you having to demonstrate your proficiency in each of the 5 areas listed above.

1. Commitment to Your Education

The CPA license has one of the highest educational standard. The process is also quite complicated, especially for candidates who are not in the traditional route as an accounting major.

In the United States, each state is empowered to set their own standards and requirements and therefore all requirements, not just education, vary from one State to another.

Most States require at least a Bachelor’s degree, with a total of 150 credit hours of accredited higher education. Many CPA candidates pursue a 1 year (30 credit hours) Masters program after getting their Bachelor’s degree to satisfy this requirement.

Most States also require that you have a heavy concentration in accounting. Some States specifically require that you have a concentration in accounting while others are more lenient.

2. Demonstration of Your Accounting Knowledge

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) develops and administers a comprehensive uniform CPA exam that you must pass to get your certification. The reason it is called uniform is because although each State specifies its own CPA exam requirements, the CPA exam itself is the same across the United States.

The exam consists of 4 parts that roughly take a combined 16 hours to complete. You can take these in any sequence, and don’t have to take them all at the same time like in the past.

3. Commitment to and Ability to Work in the Accounting Profession

For the standard rule, you have to work about a year or two in relevant field, preferably public accounting. What if you don’t or don’t want to work in public accounting? No problem. Any other accounting related field will do, for example a corporate accounting and finance department.

However, to get your license, most States require a written attestation from you supervisor validating your work experience, and they require that your supervisor must be a CPA license holder, not just a certificate holder.

4. Demonstration of Ethical Standards

Most States also require that you pass the CPA Ethics Exam shortly after passing the CPA exam. This exam is not too difficult and you can study for it on your own.

However, please beware. Because the exam itself is an open book test, many CPA candidates end up failing the CPA Ethics Exam because they underestimate it. Don’t do that. Some level of preparation beforehand will always give you better chances of passing the exam.

5. Your Ongoing Commitment to the Accounting Profession

Please expect to pay the license fee, which is up for payment every 3 years for most states. There is also a continuing professional education (CPE) requirement and CPA licensee must take a course (self-study, webinar or live classes) for at least 20 credit hours per year, and 120 credits in the 3-year cycle. There are small difference in various states but this is the general rule.

Exceptions to the General Rules

If you are not a US Citizen, don’t hold an accounting degree, are not 21, only have 120 hours of education or don’t want to work in public accounting, the CPA requirements you have to meet are slightly different. It is best to do further research and reserve more time for the application.

My Advice on How to Become CPA as Quickly as Possible

Becoming a CPA in the US is easy once you know exactly how to approach the process which I’ve boiled down to three key steps:

  1. Understand all the CPA requirements that are specific to you thoroughly
  2. Take the best CPA exam review course to prepare you to pass on your first attempt
  3. Pass the CPA exam and fulfill the remaining requirements

Wishing you all the best on your quest to CPA Success!

How I Ended Up with My CPA Review Course

CPA review courseWhen I decided to take the CPA exam, the first thing after applying for the exam through the state board, is to select a review course.

There are many choices nowadays — from books, practice questions, online review course to live classes. Because I want to study at the comfort of my home and also it’s hard to locate a course that is offered in nearby institution, I decided to go for the online courses with video and performance tracking feature.

I would like to share my findings to those who bump into this site (yes, you!)

Becker CPA

The first review materials that I heard of, and most people heard of, is Becker. It has been around for a long time and many of my former colleagues took them, mostly because it is paid by the firm. I have since left and move into the industry, and therefore, have to fund the review materials myself.

Becker is all great with easy to understand notes. I heard that the instructors (Peter Olinto I believe?) have been around for very long time and therefore they are very experience. They are funny in a geeky kind of way too, not exactly my cup of tea but I can imagine many accounting students find them funny enough.

After a lot of struggle, I decided to skip Becker, mostly because of the price. At more than $3,000 it eats into my saving and I think I can pass with other less expensive alternatives out there.

Gleim CPA

Next I look into Gleim, which was recommended by my TA way back in college. It seems to have changed quite a bit (from the last time I took a way), from a plain boring super thick book to something quite interactive. There are also many features such as the Gleim Online, which guides self-study candidates on how to take pace, track the performance, and pass.

While this is all great, I don’t exactly like the video lectures (yes, I am quite picky). Price is more reasonable though at around $1200, and without the video it is less than $1000 still. But from my research they hike their prices quite frequently in the past year or so, so better get it soon rather than later if you like them enough.

Wiley CPA

Then there is the good old CPA exam text books. I checked out Bisk, which recently was sold so I ignored it, and anyway the most popular one is Wiley, as shown on Amazon. I checked it at the bookstore and indeed it has a lot of info, but a bit too much for me to digest… so I guess I do need some sort of video after all… so I went to…

Yaeger CPA

The website looks “fresh” enough and they have some interesting payment method such as pay as you go, like you can pay at a low price but then when you add it up it would likely be more expensive than the normal package. I checked out the video and like Cindy Simpson quite a bit, but Phil Yaeger is pretty monotone. Can’t take that especially that he covers REG, my expected weaker area.

Roger CPA

So lastly, I check out Roger CPA, a review course founded by Roger (duh). Roger Philipp to be specific. The guy speaks quite fast, which is my style, and also funny (in a good way). The offer isn’t the most affordable but then I guess it is so for a reason. The site is hip and I see that there are many candidates just like me who uses Roger. So yes, this is the one I ended up having, and it’s been great.

I mean, studying for the CPA exam is never a “great” feeling, but with Roger I think I suffer less during the process and I have the confidence in beating this beat within this year.

Wish me the best!

How I Rate Wiley CPA Exam Review Books and Test Bank

Wiley CPA review course materials are probably the most widely used CPA review system, and is certainly one of the oldest (over 30 years). The best thing about these books is that they are dirt cheap when compared to the overpriced review courses out there. But one thing people may complain is on the user-friendliness.

Wiley materials used to be way too comprehensive in trying to cover all bases in great detail, but students have noticed some improvement in recent revisions of Wiley’s review books, which have become more concise and more efficient to study from. In spite of the improvements, though, many students still find Wiley’s books to contain too much information.

Wiley CPA Exam ReviewSome students complain about the “newsprint-like” font in Wiley books, and that they contain too
many typos, both in explanation text and in calculations. If you don’t like to read from textbooks (especially if it’s in a small font), you might want to check out the higher-end version under the Wiley brand – CPAexcel.

On the plus side, Wiley’s CPA review books are a lot cheaper than most of the other CPA review courses, and they are updated with each bi-annual update so you can be sure you’re getting the most up-to-date information. If you want to go with Wiley, don’t just get the review books. Also get the Wiley CPA online test bank which contain tons of MCQs and also simulation questions. If you don’t mind doing a lot of reading and spending time doing a lot of questions, Wiley’s review books combined with Wiley’s software CDs can prepare you very well for the CPA exam – and for a lot less money than other CPA review courses.

There are a few places where you can purchase the online test bank. The official Wiley website carries if, but the test bank is almost always sold at retail price.

The other places where you can get them is Amazon. You can get the books and the test banks separately. The drawback is that you have to wait for the access code (the PIN) to deliver.

There are several resellers as well. Another71 used to sell Wiley test bank but no longer now that Jeff has its own product. Stephanie at IPasstheCPAexam.com still carries them (now at least, who knows when she will have her own stuff like Jeff!). She sells the PINs at a standard discount, which can be higher and lower than Amazon as Amazon prices tend to fluctuate a lot.

How I Rate Roger CPA Review Course

Roger CPA Review CourseMany students that have used the Roger CPA Review Course comment that Roger Philipp, CPA has a very engaging and enthusiastic lecturing style that keeps students interested and focused while watching his lectures. Past and current students have also observed that Roger Philipp has a way of teaching that makes difficult concepts easy to understand, even for those who have graduated a long time ago and are basically learning again from scratch.

Roger’s study materials include the Roger textbook (designed to accompany the lectures) and their new proprietary practice questions (they used to provide Wiley Test Bank and books, but not anymore).

Aside from the lectures courses, Roger also offers cram courses that are condensed forms of the regular courses. Taking these cram courses the last few weeks before an exam can considerably increase the student’s chances of passing. Cram courses are available as online classes and on USB. The online classes for each section will expire in two months, during which the student can view each segment once. FAR is condensed to 16 hours, with the other 3 sections condensed to 8 hours each.

Roger does not aim to cover all topics in the CPA curriculum. Instead, the course focuses only on questions that are most likely to come up in exams, which minimizes study time and maximizes exam results.

The Roger CPA Review website boasts a pass rate of 88%. This is impressive compared to the ~50% pass rate for Uniform CPA Examination in the last few years.

Students of the Roger CPA Exam Review Program are given access to message boards and chat rooms, and may email Roger Phillips, CPA to ask questions.

When it comes to pricing, Roger’s CPA Review Materials cost about the same as the Yaeger Review (Roger costs a little bit more), but is considerably less expensive than Becker’s.

There you have it – one of most candid and comprehensive Roger CPA review reviews you will find on the net. All in all, the Roger CPA Review Course is highly recommended as one of the best CPA courses on the market.

Recommended Materials:

If you’re studying for the CPA from scratch, or have failed exams by many points, then Roger’s Live/Online/USB Course (Individual Sections or Full Course) may help you.

For supplementing your current CPA review course, or if you’ve almost passed previous exams, Roger Cram Courses may give you the few extra points you need to pass.

See here how cool Roger is :)

Credential Evaluation Agencies for the CPA Exam

Credential Evaluation AgenciesCredential Evaluation Agencies comes to rescue if you attend a university outside the US or if your school is not regionally accredited. What they do is to “translate” your transcript into a US-equivalent in order to facilitate the review process by the State Board.

How To Pick Credential Evaluation Agencies

  • Some states recognize all agencies that are members of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Services (NACES) (more details below), but states such as Delaware only recognizes FACS for example. It is important to check your State Board’s websites for details.
  • The foreign credential evaluation agency will ask you to pick a state before sending the transcripts, so be prepared.
  • It takes anywhere from a few days to 4-6 weeks depending on the evaluation agency you are using, but please expect a possibility of 6-8 weeks in case you get hit in their “peak season”.
  • Please expect to pay around US$100-300 for the basic service, and more if you have additional request e.g. extra official copies, express service, mailing by courier.

Note:

  • Illinois and Texas state boards evaluate the transcript (domestic and foreign) themselves.

Do You Have Any Recommendations?

I actually don’t have specific recommendations – as long as they are recognized by your state board, you can either pick the least expensive one or the fastest one. While I heard some agencies may be slightly lenient than the others, the difference is very small and it is hard to tell.

If you really want some suggestions…

1) NASBA International Evaluation Service

This credential evaluation service is run directly by NASBA (national body of the state boards). The service was launched in July 2012 and is now covering 23 states.

Pros

  • Easy submission online — it should take around 5-10 minutes to complete. Please note that you still need to send in the original transcript.

Cons

  • Relatively expensive: At $200 per evaluation, it is more expensive than FACS but I have to say it is reasonable given the fast turnaround time. Additional evaluation will cost $100 and a change in jurisdiction will cost $50.
  • Accept only original transcripts. Unlike many agencies that accept notarized copies, NASBA evaluation service is pretty strict on the documentation. You can request that your original documents to be returned.
  • This service does not serve all jurisdiction — I am sure NASBA looks to expand its service but it will be up to the state boards to decide.

2) Foreign Academic Credential Services (FACS)

FACS is the one I used previously for my own evaluation of extra accounting courses I took outside the US.

The company was formed to replace the AICPA Foreign Academic Credential Services in 1982 (i.e. I see the company as “semi-official”, before the NASBA service at least). It is one of the more (if not the most) established foreign credential evaluation agencies and the founding member of NACES, its industry association.

What you need to gather before the application

  • Information of all your educational background, starting from the elementary school. You can also include any professional qualification e.g. chartered accountant that you may have.
  • Decision on which state you are registering for the CPA exam. You can ask FACS to evaluate several states for you but each evaluation costs $100-200 (depending on the state)

Pros

  • It is the most affordable — the charge depends on the state you are applying to, but it ranges from $100-200.
  • Accepts notarized copy of your transcripts*

* Note on notarization:

Copies of original records will be accepted if they are officially notarized and certified as true copies by the issuing school, a U.S. educational foundation, a U.S. Consul, AMIDEAST or a similar agency.

Cons

  • It takes the longest to process — 4-6 weeks, and for me it took 8 weeks.
  • For international candidates you want to send in the transcripts at least 4-6 MONTHS before the desired testing windows because you’ll need the time to apply for visa and making hotel and traveling arrangements.

3) World Education Services (WES)

WES is one of the largest credential evaluation agencies with over thirty years of experience. I’ve never used their service but I heard they are quite popular.

Pros

  • There is an express service available: $100 extra for three-day service; $195 extra for same-day service
  • For Indian candidates, they have a page specifically on their
Note: I heard of instances that their report which evaluated a 3-year degree as a 4-year degree has been rejected by state board. As a result I am no longer recommending readers to go through this route. It may still work, but it could be risky.

Cons

  • WES accepts transcript sent directly from the institutions only
  • More expensive: basic service costs $160

4) Educational Credential Evaluator (ECE)

I have seen quite a lot of candidates using ECE because of their speedy service. ECE is a private, non-profit organization.

When compared to FACS…

Pros

  • ECE has a more informative website
  • Express service available: $45 extra for 12-business day service, $75 for 5-business day service, and $27o for 1-business day service
  • Please double check, but I heard they accept notarized transcripts
  • ECE returns your original transcripts without specific request as in the case of FACS

Cons

  • Delaware, Georgia, Montana and Texas state boards do not recognize ECE.
  • The course-to-course service (applicable to CPA exam) costs $135 — which could be more expensive than FACS depending on the state your are apply to.

Again, be sure to check out the approval list from your state board before contacting any of these evaluation agencies. Good luck!

How I Rate Yaeger CPA Review

Yaeger CPA ReviewThe Yaeger team has been in the CPA review business since 1977 and has grown to be one of the major CPA review course providers.

Yaeger CPA Review’s lecture videos are taught by Dr. Yaeger and other experienced instructors on the team. In each video, the instructor teaches the concepts first and then goes over the MCQ’s. They identify the questions that will most likely appear on the cpa exam, so the student can focus on those and skip the ones that probably won’t be on the exam.

Included with the Yaeger CPA Review Home Study Course is the “Instructors Hotline” service, which allows the student to call their instructors via an 800 number to ask any questions. A student can speak to the instructor for the particular section s/he has questions on. The instructor will spend as much time as is necessary to make sure the student has understood the topic before getting off the phone.

As for the price, Yaeger CPA Review Courses are slightly more affordable than most CPA exam review courses, such as Becker, CPAexcel and Roger.

Some students that use other CPA courses to learn the study material but feel the need for additional supplements, turn to Yaeger’s Cram DVDs which promise to add 5-15 points to the exam score. Each DVD condenses an entire CPA section into 7-16 hrs (depending on the section), and is designed to help identify the student’s weaknesses and conquer them before doing the exam. Although these are also available as webinars, they expire in a month, whereas the DVD versions will never expire.

Yaeger is diligent in updating its CPA review materials. They re-film all their online lectures every year to ensure that the student is getting the most up-to-date materials.

To call Dr. Phil Yaeger directly to ask any questions before purchasing the materials, his phone number can be found halfway down this page (click here).

Which Product Should I Choose?

If you’re studying for CPA from scratch, or have failed exams by >15 points, consider getting the Yaeger HomeStudy Course (Individual Sections, Complete Course, or Combo 1/2/3).

For supplementing your current CPA review course, or if you’ve failed exams by <15 Points, the Yaeger Cram Courses should give you the extra marks you need to pass.

How I Rate Gleim CMA

Gleim CMAThe Gleim CMA review course materials are available through an entire line of products delivered in different formats. There are the CMA review books, the audio reviews, test prep software, the simulation wizard, the Gleim Online program, and professor-led reviews.

Of all of the materials available, the Gleim CMA software test-prep CD is the most-praised by students. The questions in the Gleim CMA test bank helps identify any weaknesses you have so that you can concentrate on weak areas when studying. Included are over 1,500 questions in each of the four exam sections. Because this software mimics the actual exam, if you’re able to score well using the test-prep you’re likely to also do well on the actual exam. In fact, many students find the mock exams harder than the actual exam!

There are students that complain that the Gleim materials go into too much detail at times by attempting to cover every possible question that could potentially come up in the CMA exam. Others complain that the lectures do not explain concepts clearly enough.

Conclusion

From what I know, Gleim is the most popular review materials for CMA despite the fact that Wiley is officially endorsed by the IMA. (Gleim is still endorsed by IMA indirectly through their “strategic partner” relationship).

The good thing about Gleim review for CMA is that they cost less than many of the other CMA review courses out there. Plus, you get discounts if you buy multiple products. If you’re fresh out of school and only need good practice questions before taking the exam, then by all means consider this provider.

If you are concerned about the review materials not being too user friendly, you may consider getting your learning materials from another CMA review course and get Gleim’s test-prep if you need to go through more practice questions.

UoP Online: Pros And Cons Analysis

University of Phoenix (UoP Online) is the largest private university in the U.S and offers the largest number of accredited online degree programs of any online institution.

UoP OnlineFounded in 1976, UoP Online was one of the first accredited universities to offer online college education with complete degree programs via the Internet. The School currently has more than 19,000 faculty members, including more than 9,600 in the online campus.

UoP Online Review

Let’s start with what the University is offering:

1. A Different Learning Experience

The learning experience at UoP Online is quite different from a traditional on-campus university in a way that it is based on “learning team assignments”.

Instead of having the instructor lecturing to a classroom, the students are grouped in teams and the instructor / facilitator helps move the conservation along to the right direction.

2. It Requires More Discipline

Some people thought that a for-profit school such as the University of Phoenix will give out degrees to anyone who pays. It’s not true according to the existing students.

In fact, it requires more discipline than a traditional college setting, since you have to manage your own schedule and make sure to get assignments in on time.

3. Course Is Meant For People In The Workforce

The classes at UoP Online are meant for individuals who are currently in the workforce — in fact, this is stated as one of the admission requirements in the application. If you don’t work, you have to at least get experience in a similar environment (e.g. regular voluntary work)

UoP Online Review: Pros and Cons

Pros

1.Great For Students With Work/Family Commitment

The University of Phoenix becomes popular simply because the School meets a need that many other schools are not addressing.

For many people who work full-time and have families, traditional colleges are an impossibility. UoP Online makes it possible for me to work on my degree and still have my own life.

2. Designed For Students With Working Experience

This is a great option for working people with hands-on experience at undergraduate level.

Cons

1. Mixed Review On Staff Quality

There has been mixed reviews on the quality of counselors and financial advisers. Given how big the University has become it is understandable that the counselors and advisers vary greatly in terms of quality and professionalism.

2. Complaints On Quality Of Student Body

There have also been complaints about the quality of the students which affect the overall quality of team projects.

It is true that UoP Online accepts everyone as long as you have a high school diploma or GED. There is also no placement tests so the education level within the “team” can vary quite a bit.

I personally don’t think it’s a big deal because in the workplace you are also working with people with varying abilities… but I can see why some students may have an issue with that.

A Commercially-Driven, For-Profit School

It’s a fact that University of Phoenix is a for-profit enterprise — it’s actually the main business of a publicly-listed company (Apollo Group) that is always under the pressure of enhancing shareholders’ value (i.e. increase profitability).

In fact, the School has once undergone some “shady” practices of having a commission-based incentive for counselors to “recruit” students. University of Phoenix settled with the Department of Education for $9.8 million in 2004, and paid a $78.5 million settlement in 2009 of the whistle-blowers’ False Claim Act lawsuit against the University.

(If you want to learn more, simply google “university of phoenix litigation”)

A “Discounted” Degree?

For various reasons, the big-name corporations are said to have discounted the degree from UoP Online. It shouldn’t be a problem if you work for small-to-medium enterprises but if you aim to work for the biggest corporations you may want to do more research on this aspect.

Conclusion

The controversies have led to a 50% drop in student enrollment in the past 5 years. Having said that, U of P remains to be one of the most popular destinations for online education. If you are concerned about the negatives surrounding the University of Phoenix, then you can check out other universities that offer online degrees.
